Vega Crowned Queen of the Rock

Apopka, Florida.
The SunCoast Series wrapped up the final round of the Rock Springs Ridge event today.  Briana Vega (North Andover, MA) led wire-to-wire to capture her first professional win.  The North Carolina State grad put together rounds of 69-70-71=210 for a six under par tournament total to win by four strokes.  Vega, whose collegiate resume includes five top 10's and holds the Wolfpack eighteen and fifty-four hole scoring record, announced her presence in the ladies golf arena by winning the Golf Channel's hit reality show, "The Big Break VI".  After winning the "Big Break" Vega spent the summer of 2007 competing on the Duramed Futures Tour finishing 82nd on the money list earning just over $5,400.00.

"I recognized the need to elevate my game and I realized that my weakness has always been my putting.  I have spent hours working hard on my putting and this week I decided to change to a long-shaft putter.  It felt comfortable and that translated into great putting during the tournament.  Over the holiday break I spent some time with my coach and after some adjustments with my grip and a club change my ball striking was great this week.  It felt that everything was coming together. I feel my confidence level is high and i am playing good golf."

Finishing second this week is Ascot England's Samantha Head who put together another solid round of one under par 71 to finish the tournament at 214 two under par.  Charlotte Campbell (Heathrow, FL) and Susan Choi (Natick, MA) tie for third this week at five over par.  Campbell put together a nice final round score of level par 72 while Choi posted a one over par 73.

The SunCoast Series tees it up next week at Ocoee's finest Forest Lake Golf Club.  Round one is schedule to begin at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday morning.
