Cho-Hunicke
Crowned Champion at Zellwood CC
Apopka, Florida. The
SunCoast Ladies Series wrapped things up today at Zellwood Country Club in
Apopka, Florida. Jeanne Cho-Hunicke (Longwood, FL) used her RIFE
Aussie Putter to roll her way to victory this week. The 2003
University of Florida grad posted rounds of 70-75-74=219 finishing the
tournament at three over par, a good performance for a player who has been
struggling with her confidence on the golf course.
" My confidence level on the course hasn't been very high lately.
I came into this week wanting to win really bad and I posted a good number
on Tuesday. I felt like I was grinding a lot over the last two rounds
and teeing it up with Samantha who was only a couple of strokes behind me I
knew I had to play solid today if I was going to win. My goal this
morning was to get off to a hot start and separate myself from Samantha and
Carolina. I birdied the first two but something happened and I bogeyed
two of the next four holes. I felt comfortable with the golf course
and the greens being as good as they are I just needed to concentrate on my
game and play solid for the rest of the round. At the end of the day I won."
Samantha Head (Ascot, England) and Carolina Llano (Colombia) tie for
second place this week finishing the tournament at four over par 220.
Both Head and Llano had opportunities to take the lead but both suffered
costly three-putts at the par 4 16th. Cho-Hunicke's bogey at the 17th
would pull both Head and Llano within one shot as they headed into the Par 5
18th. All three players would make par and Jeanne Cho-Hunicke earns
her first SunCoast Ladies Series title and an invitation to the season
ending "Tournament of Champions" bonus event.
The SunCoast Ladies Series will tee it up again next week at LPGA
International in Daytona Beach, Florida. Round one is scheduled to
begin at 10:00 a.m. Monday.
