Vega Leads Wire-to-Wire for Win Number Three
Lakeland, Florida. The SunCoast Series wrapped up a two
event series today at Huntington Hills Golf and Country Club in
Lakeland, Florida. A week that brought a variety of obstacles for
the players that included strong, gusty winds and the threat of
thunderstorms one player battled the elements to earn this weeks
title. Briana Vega of North Andover, Massachusetts stood strong
against mother nature to claim her third SunCoast Series victory this
season. Vega posted rounds of 70-75-74=219 for a three over par
tournament total and a six stroke victory. Not a bad performance
especially after a disappointing week at the Duramed Futures Tour season
opener last week at Cleveland Heights GC where back to back double
bogeys during round one took her out of contention on the weekend.
"I needed this. This is such a confidence booster to get three
solid rounds under my belt after my performance in the Futures Tour
event this past weekend. I am still working on some swing changes
and trying to get comfortable over the ball. This golf course
doesn't fit my game because a lot of holes I can't hit driver and to
come here this week having to hit a variety of golf shots and pulling
them off, especially as windy as it was for the first two rounds, does a
lot for me mentally as I gear up for my next Futures Tour event at LPGA
International in a couple of weeks."
Series newcomers Aimee Cho (Orlando, FL) and Hiroko Fujishima
(Tokyo, Japan) share second place this week finishing the tournament the
at nine over par.
The SunCoast Series will take the next week off but will return to action April
1-3 at Deer Run Country Club in Casselberry, Florida.
