Samantha Head Overcomes Two Shot Deficit to Take Zellwood Title
Apopka, Florida. The SunCoast Ladies Series
wrapped up the final day of competition at Zellwood Station Country Club
today with Ascot, England native Samantha Head taking Champion's honors with
rounds of 69-72-70=211 to win the event at five under par.
"It is shocking to get the win this week. I took two weeks off
after competing overseas in February and didn't touch a club. I
started the week with very little expectation in regards to my ball
striking. My short game kept me going throughout the week and it
basically came down to holing putts. I played the final four holes
today three under par. On the front nine today the entire group
struggled so I decided to not worry about winning or losing but focus
more on keeping it fun heading into the final nine holes. I finished
well playing the back nine at four under par."
South Korea's Mi Sun Cho continues to play
well this Winter carding low round of the day with a three under par 69
to move up the leaderboard into a tie for second with four other players,
including first and second round leader Benedikte Grotvedt (Nesbru, Norway)
who had her struggles today posting a final round four over par 76.
Up next for the series is the Florida Women's Open being held
at Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando next week. The tournament kicks
off Monday, March 9 with round one scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.
